AP Studio Concentration Pieces 2016
Being an Asian American teenager is a complicated experience. Themes of belonging in two conflicting cultures, stereotypical orientalism, and microaggressions, are prevalent within my everyday life, and therefore bleed into my work. In a society where my school’s art history curriculum treated art from outside of Europe as mere afterthoughts, the voices and presence of people of color commonly gets lost within the art community. In a cliche sense, I am simply making the art I want to see.
